Bronntanas LGBTQI is a not-for-profit social enterprise that aims to develop and deliver a range of psychotherapeutic interventions to further the mental health and wellbeing of those people living in rural Ireland who identify as LGBTQIAF (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Fetish). We will work with individuals and couples who are questioning their heteronormative lives, and families who need support around issues of sexuality and gender identity.. Collaborating with other practitioners in the field of mental health and social change, we aim to build on the positive developments that have begun for LGBTQIAF people in Ireland. We commit to continue exploring and critically inquiring with psychotherapists and mental health professionals to identify and develop creative approaches that foster psychological wellbeing for the individuals, couples and families who live in our rural communities. To achieve this, Bronntanas will: Convene a community of practitioners who are committed to developing an ecological, embodied and dialogical approach to psychological well-being through a democratic process in which diversity is encouraged Develop a network of LGBTQIAF-affirmative psychotherapists/counsellors who can offer psychological care for LGBTQIAF people or those who are questioning their sexuality Offer clinical supervision to psychotherapists/counsellors/social workers/health professionals who are working with this client group Build relationships with local mental health and GP services so that effective referrals can be made Create training modules and Continuing Professional Development workshops for clinicians and those in the helping professions who are seeking to understand LGBTQIAF people’s experiences Develop a qualitative, participatory research programme to enhance professionals’ understanding of effective psychotherapeutic interventions Devise creative interventions that draw on a diversity of modes Build relationships with LGBTQIAF advocacy organisations to support their ongoing work and to generate awareness of Bronntanas’s psychotherapeutic services Seek support in cash or kind to ensure increased access to psychotherapy for those individuals who need financial support Liaise with psychotherapy training institutes in Ireland to foster awareness of our service-provision and to solicit support for its delivery.
